“The strip district flourishes with residents, private businesses and large businesses, and visitors that travel from out of town to visit. Mayor’s Plan to Restrict Penn Ave to a Single Lane Road will Stifle Access, Impede Emergency Vehicles, Hinder Residents, and Devastate Local Business.”

Dawn, Visitor

“Do not change Penn Avenue. You're building businesses in the Strip, like the Terminal, to attract people downtown but parking is horrible and traffic is horrible. If you eliminate a driving lane on Penn Avenue it will only become much worse. I enjoy visiting the Strip year-round and take family and friends there, but changing Penn Avenue will make me reconsider visiting there in the future.”

Tina, Visitor

“The local government, businesses, and residents should have the final say in changes made to their neighborhood. The city works for us, not the other way around.

Please listen to the concerns of the community and the letters of opposition.”

Gary, Business

“I drive throughout city all day everyday. Every neighborhood these useless sticks put in streets to illuminate lanes change traffic patterns and create bike lanes have done nothing but create complicated traffic patterns leading to backups frustrating drivers leading to more dangerous situations. On Penn Ave there is already painted bike signs on street the bikes don't need there own lane. The strip is a delivery area, produce & Buisness. You forget plenty of trucking along river plenty of strip businesses with trucks and loading docks, have you drove Penn Ave? At rush hour? What's next are you gonna suggest drones for delivery?? These people trying to turn this area into a recreational park are out of touch, out of line and not realistic!

Jamie, Visitor

“There are a few simple ways in which Penn Avenue could be improved, none of which include making it a single lane. Additional lighting and highlighting crosswalks would be the easiest way to reduce the concerns of night time accidents. As a visitor who walks to and from the Strip District multiple times a month, I have rarely, if ever, felt concerned with safety. However, walking to and from is preferred because of the congestion that already exists. It goes against common sense to reduce the traffic to one lane and increase congestion in that area.”

Sherri, Visitor

“It would help if surrounding streets could somehow accommodate more parking rather than on Penn Avenue. But I'm sorry I can't think of where tgat might be possible.”

Gay, Visitor

“It will make it worse. They already destroyed the character with the loading dock redo and all the Condos. leave Penn alone it's historic”

Nikki, Resdient

“Seriously all this city ever does is cause more traffic. It is already a mess if you come in on Smallman Street. Then you jokers have people (probably that rarely parallel park, backing into spots) causing traffic jams. Now this…. Seriously! Bad idea!!!!
You took all the available street parking downtown for bike lanes, I am down there everyday and there is rarely anyone in them. In addition we have trails all around the city for biking.”

Kathlene, Visitor

“Realistically how many bike riders will travel this route? During the winter season probably close to none.
Please do not try to fix something that is not broken!!!!”

Joseph, Visitor

“Hell no! DOMi and Bike PGh are 100% wrong on this one. There is no need for a bike lane here, I bike through the strip regularly on Smallman St, it’s much wider and safer. DOMI is out of control the last few years with bike lanes and traffic calming. They pay no attention to community input unless it’s those that agree with them.
Bike PGH, DOMI and Council woman Barb Warwick want the City to be so congested the only option is to ride a bike or public transit. We tried that once in East Liberty years ago and it destroyed the business district.”

Zachar, Resident

“The strip is one of the most notable areas in the city for the residents of Pittsburgh and already has plenty of areas for Bikers to travel through. They have an entire trail with incredible views of the river. They don't need to be losers who clog up the road in one of the most historic areas in our city. Let them have East Liberty, but don't let those fools have our Strip.”

Dina, Visitor

“It would have such a negative affect of the fun atmosphere the Strip holds while shopping.”

Thea, Visitor

“To change such a historical beautiful place would be disaster. I am a city resident and 3rd generation patron of more than a dozen strip district businesses. Unfortunately this would cause me to avoid the strip district for shopping and driving.”

Michael, Visitor

“This is the dumbest idea ever and the political action group Bike Pgh needs to be stopped”

Piper, Resident

“The city is supposed to work for us- not the other way around!!! The leaders of the strip district’s government, businesses, and homeowners should have the final say in these changes. Obviously.”

Sommer, Visitor

“I've already seen some of DOMIs "improvement plans" in action and I am not impressed. I watched from my job as they changed the intersection of Forbes and Dallas, and it has wrecked parking for our business, caused daily traffic accidents, and amplified the road rage outside our building, a children's learning center. I watch from my desk daily as people drive the wrong way up a one way intersection into oncoming traffic. The city and DOMI have ignored all requests made to reevaluate the safety of this intersection, believing their job is done, and society will magically change to accommodate after a few years.
I have no hope they'll do any better in the Strip, and they should be stopped before they get the chance to try and create a new mess that they are unwilling to bend on.”

Amanda, Resident

“Yinz are going to be putting people's lives at risk because your stupid —- don't seem to realize that emergency vehicles won't be able to respond in a timely manner, if at all really! Also, a lot of the bikers in Da Burgh are —- who don't use the bike lane even when there is a clearly designated lane for them to use or follow traffic patterns and laws of the road anyway…screw them. The Gainey administration needs to pull it's head out of its —-, and stop mismanaging the city, jag offs….”

Florie, Visitor

“Preserve the integrity and historic feel of the strip!”

Thomas, Visitor

“Slowly this historic section of Pittsburgh is dying, This area brings in much needed tourism dollars for downtown Pittsburgh.”

Lauren, Employee

“The sidewalks are already in shambles, overcrowded, and unsafe. Now you are encouraging pedestrians to walk in a bike lane and risk getting hit by a rage filled driver. I would rather see speed bumps to slow traffic and working traffic lights that allow safe crossings. This plan does not make the area safer.”

Tyler, Visitor

“Frequent the strip for the shopping, bike lane would make accessibility too difficult.”

Regan, Visitor

“We go the strip quite frequently and traffic is already an issue, but going to 1 lane, you are forcing people to NOT want to come at all. This is a horrible idea.”
